Look Good on Camera

The Photoshoot Process

Where does it take place?

Preferably we’ll use your own home or that of a neighbour, relative or friend. A garden can be ideal but the vagaries of the British and Irish Climate makes the availability of an indoor venue essential. We will need a clear floor space of about 9 feet (3 metres) square, and easy access to a couple of electric points. Essentially I’m going to turn your front room or whatever into a mini photo studio. ( I am house-trained and your carpets and paintwork are safe with me!) A relatively modest dining room or lounge usually suffices as long as there isn’t too much furniture. If that is not possible then we will need to look at mutually convenient alternatives.

What Happens?

Firstly I need the best part of an hour to unload and set up the screens, lights etc.

Then I will need your undivided attention for maybe a couple of hours or so, punctuated only by comfort/refreshment/clothes-changing breaks. No matter how many people are in the house, the photo-shoot is very much a one to one experience and I see “the studio” as a private consulting room. Ideally therefore we need to be in a relatively tranquil environment.

During the photo-shoot we learn what suits you best in terms of colours and angles, and which expressions work particularly well. You get the opportunity to:-

  1. try out techniques of stance and posture,
  2. wear a variety of colours,
  3. use different facial expressions,
  4. and immediately view the results.

Learning from what we see we take more pictures and repeat the process until you are comfortable with the camera and confident about the image you present to it.

We will need about 2-3 hours (it’s great fun and the time flies). After some initial tuition, we’ll take loads of photographs stopping every 10 to 15 minutes to review the images on computer. In this way we will build your knowledge of what works best for you. If you have long hair you can see how it looks up and down, learn the colours and angles that suit you best, and most of all learn how to feel at ease and enjoy reacting with the camera.

We finish the session when you are happy with the results.

You will subsequently receive a summary of the information provided during the photo-shoot and a CD of photographs taken. If you need any further help or advice in the future then I will always be happy to take your call.
